1. PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE

It is something that will be familiar with lots of things in life and that is hard work! There are lots of ways that learners can prepare and help themselves and these include doing past papers, using revision materials provided by the school and working through notes. The key message is work hard and you will reap the rewards!

2. DON’T BE AFRAID OF GETTING QUESTIONS WRONG

Getting questions wrong is a common and important part of life and learning. It is how you learn from that mistake that is crucial. Use each wrong answer as a learning curve to find out where you went wrong in the question and how to fix the issue.

3. WORK AND STUDY THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE YEAR

Many learners have gone through life by cramming in a lot of revision in a short period of time shortly before an exam. The short answer is ‘don’t’. With a big shift to continuous assessment throughout the whole year it is absolutely vital to keep on top of things throughout the whole school year to allow the learner to show their full academic potential at all times.

4. TAKE A BREAK

Every learner likes to study in different ways however one of the common features that is vital is taking a break. A good structure that we always look to recommend is doing 25 minutes of work with a 5 minute recap of the work done and then taking a 5 minute break. This allows the learner to fully engage and stay focused on what they are doing before moving on to another topic or subject area.

5. MAKE SURE YOU ASK FOR HELP IF YOU NEED IT

Some people feel embarrassed to ask for help and the long and short is do not be embarrassed. The experts are there to help and support you. Whether it is a teacher at school or a tutor at home do not be afraid to ask them questions. They want you to succeed as much as you do!
